Black Box / Light Box
light and sound installation

This installation was built for the event Licht, curated by Achim Wollscheid and Charly Steiger.
The Black Box, made from sheet steel, contains two heating coils which, shortly after being switched on, colour the thermal paper that is mounted as outer skin. The Light Box has two side panels that can be pulled out slightly. The light, which emits from the high temperature filament bulbs built into the box, creates light patterns in the space. Both boxes hung from the ceiling and were wired with contact microphones to transmit the small cracks of the steel plates expanding when heated up. Heat and light were interpreted to be two different aspects of the same kind of energy.
